Road Accidents: Reasons and Safety Measures

Share

Introduction

Unfortunately, traffic crashes are very frequent and most of these road accidents are caused by human error. Though some are relatively mild, these horrific car accidents claim thousands of lives per year. Since your life can be at risk if you’re driving in a dangerous way, it’s so important to drive safely and follow all traffic rules. However, just because you’re careful doesn’t guarantee you should make sure the drivers on the road do the same thing. When you are in a traffic accident, it will not be your fault, and you should not be held accountable for the harm incurred by the ignorance or error of other drivers. In those cases, you should consider defending yourself by making a report for a car crash. There are so many losses, pains and frustrations that can occur as a result of a car crash, that it’s best to protect your health above all else.

Causes of Road Accidents

  • Distracted Driving

Distract driving is becoming a major danger every year and has been the leading cause of car crashes for decades. Please pay attention to the road when you’re driving. That means no calls, no calling, no chewing, no reading, no shaving or make-up, and chatting behind the wheel.

  • Drunk Driving

Drunk driving is one of the most dangerous causes of injuries in the U.S. and the deadliest. If you’ve had something to drink, take a taxi or give your keys to a sober friend of mine. The danger is not worth it.

  • Over-Speeding

Although it might be tempting to exceed the speed limit while you’re running late, speeding is the second most frequent cause of injuries, so you can resist the risk to keep under the legal limits.

  • Reckless Driving

Moving the lanes too fast, driving way over the limits, and behaving violently on the roads will lead to terrible accidents. It is important to take your time and stay calm while driving to prevent unavoidable injuries caused by simple carelessness.

  • Rain

Though you can’t always stop driving in the rain, the rough, treacherous road conditions created by heavy rainfall should be avoided if at all possible. If the visibility is too poor to drive or the roads look especially slick, you can pull over and wait for the storm to pass.

  • Running Red Lights

It may sound simple, but it needs to be explained. Red always means to quit. And if it looks like no other vehicles are coming, you might cause a major crash by hitting a red light, and you’re going to break the rules. We’ve heard a few excuses from busy founders attempting to pass through red lights while dreaming about jobs, from legal contracts to investor relations, and at the same time literally trying to respond to work emails. Understand that life is more valuable than all these problems together, and it is better to be healthy than sorry.

  • Night Driving

Lack of daylight makes it more difficult to see dangers at night. Make sure you’re very cautious on the road at night, and use the full lighting when you’re on an abandoned road with no street lights.

  • Wrong-Way Driving/ Improper Turns

Everyone makes mistakes, but the lack of judgment when driving a car can lead to terrible accidents. Be mindful of road signs warning of one-way streets or other abnormalities, particularly in unfamiliar areas. When drivers don’t get in the right lane to turn around, use signs correctly, or obey traffic signals, accidents happen. Always watch out for road signs and stick to the right-of-way when you make a turn.

Solutions or Control

There are steps that should be taken by citizens and the government to better avoid injuries. Many injuries can be avoided, even those that are not preventable, the damage may be minimized.

  • Proper Road Design

The path should still have at least two lanes on either side with a divider in the middle of the road. This is going to reduce the number of traffic injuries and the Divider can avoid head-on crashes.

  • Safety and Warning Signs

City roads and highways have a large amount of vehicles, and it is strongly recommended to have a large number of traffic signs in order to advise and alarm drivers.

  • Traffic Signals

Traffic signals can be built anywhere there is haphazard traffic and this would reduce the chaos and injuries caused by road traffic. Traffic signals can assist with the controlled flow of traffic. These signals should also be issued by the CCTV to recognize the violators.

  • Fines and Penalties

Collecting a large sum of money as a fine would serve to make civilians more alert to road conditions and situations. People drive without driving licenses, using mobile phones when driving or riding bikes without helmets should be severely fined. This will keep them from making these mistakes in the future.

  • Strict Scrutiny before Provision of Driving

License Strict scrutiny should be conducted prior to the issuance of driving licences for new drivers. New drivers should take tough driving tests and writing tests to spot inefficient drivers. In addition, drivers should undergo regular and continuous medical tests to detect epilepsy and heart disease, so that they do not pose a problem for healthy driving.

  • Severe Punishment for Drunk Driving

Strong punishment should be levied on drunk drivers and drivers in hit and run events. People who cause deadly or serious injuries should not be able to do so freely and should be disciplined harshly, such as prison or heavy fines, and their driving license should be removed.

  • Public Awareness Programmes

Public awareness campaigns for educating people on the value of road safety should be coordinated by the government and the city traffic police. The public should also be made conscious of the value of first aid and of the golden hour and proper emergency attention in the event of a traffic accident.

  • Proper Care and Safety Measures in the Hilly Areas

The rough and dangerous curves of the hilly areas should be considered and the required arrangements, such as barricades and road signs, should be placed in place to warn drivers of possible dangerous curves. Steep roads and cliffs should have reflective signs to alert the driver, particularly at night.
